In a nutshell

Sennheiser MKH 8050 is part of the MKH 8000 series available in four sets:

- MKH 8020 omnidirectional
- MKH 8040 cardioid
- MKH 8050 supercardioid
- MKH 8060 supercardioid/lobar

Like all MKH series microphones, these four microphones are based on HF polarization theory, delivering a very low background-noise audio signal, with very low output impedance, while eliminating the use of field-effect transistors (FET), which often tend to generate random noises. Thus, thanks to this HF polarization technique, these microphones can be equipped with small capsules, which offer excellent response in low frequencies, and of course significant improvement in high frequencies. Transducer symmetrical design provides unchanged acoustic impedance and very low distortion; it has high output level, with less background noise, and thus a clearer signal..

Sennheiser has finally decided, after Neumann and Schoeps, to separate capsule MKHC 8050 (41 mm long) and preamplifier module MZX 8000 (34 mm long) with a diameter of 19 mm. Thanks to its offset cable MZL 8003 or its swivel joint MZG 8000 and its charcoal grey colour (darker than the famous Schoeps grey), it will be much easier to hide this microphone for cinema and TV use.

Sennheiser MKH 8050, notably sensitive in low frequencies, is provided with an OSIX shock mount.

Our recommendations

MKHC 8040 and 8050 capsules are of identical shape, only the polar gold symbol could help to distinguish them.

Sennheiser MKH 8050 frequency response being under 20 Hz at -6 dB, special OSIX shock mount for MKH 8000 Series is mandatory.
