Sennheiser MKH 416, introduced more than twenty years ago, remains one of the most popular half shotgun microphones, abroad like in France. Its good medium transient response and its high frequency side rejection make it especially popular for voice recording, on production or documentary shooting. Its sturdiness and good behaviour in difficult climatic conditions have made it a globetrotter microphone. MKH 416 has neither attenuator, nor low-cut filter, and, like all pressure gradient microphones, requires a foam windscreen when it is boom mounted, and a Rycote type windscreen outdoors.
