In a nutshell
Schoeps CMBi, is, as far as we know, the only true battery powered condenser microphone (not electret). On mini camera shoots without any sound mixer, there was a real need to have available a better microphone than those offered by camera manufacturers... Schoeps CMBI, which is a modular system, can be fitted with all MK series capsules. Preamp body is provided with an off/on/-15 dB switch and a momentary LED for internal battery control. It is supplied with several accessories: a spiral connector with mono 3.5 mm mini jack, a polyester basket-type windscreen (B 20/W 20) with windjammer and a suspension which can be mounted on camera hot shoe. Thanks to its unique power system, it can be directly connected to an Audio Ltd transmitter without any L48 adapter nor internal battery.
Our recommendations
The most usually used capsules are cardioid MK 4 and hypercardioid MK 41 whose back lobe can be of interest when interview is carried out by cameraman. As for all MK series capsules, a protection against wind and draughts is necessary, even indoors when camera is moving.
