The MK 5 capsule is omnidirectional or cardioid, with flat response curve for free field sound recording when omni is selected; it is thus advisable to place it, indoors, at a lower distance than room critical radius. Less wind sensitive (in omni position) than its pressure gradient equivalents, it nevertheless requires, like all condensers, the use of a windscreen (foam or polyester basket-type B 20/W 20) when it is mounted on a boom.
