In a nutshell

The 633, the latest from Sound Devices, is a compact mixer with six inputs, and integrated 10-track recorder on SD card and Compact Flash, and a full Ambient Timecode module.

The device has three mic/line inputs on XLR connectors (the first XLR input can also be used as a digital input), and three additional line level inputs on TA3 (mini-XLR) connectors.

All inputs are assignable to its six output buses, left/right plus Aux 1/2/3/4.

In addition to the main stereo XLR output, also usable in AES, one can use two auxiliary outputs on TA3 or mini-jack.

As regards recording, we find the classic polyphonic or monophonic files in WAV format, uncompressed, 24-bit 48kHz in 10 tracks, but also to please the purists, a 192 kHz sampling on 6 tracks.

The start-up duration, from start to actual recording, is two seconds, so substantially there is no more waiting.

The two cards, CF and SDHC, can be set independently, recording either identical material, or specific settings (for example mix on one card, all buses on the other).

Three powering modes are available:
- External 12-18V on 4-point Hirose
- 2 internal type L. Li-Ion batteries
- 6 LR 06 batteries.

The 633 automatically switches up between power sources when one of these weakens.

The PowerSafe system provides a 10 seconds operating security, thereby closing files properly in case of empty batteries.
