In the most recent letter published by the CST (Higher Technical Commission), Agnès Saal, former Chair of the INA (National Audiovisual Institute) and now senior civil servant responsible for equality, diversity and prevention of discrimination and senior civil servant responsible for social affairs for organisations in the French Department of Culture, has outlined her fight against all forms of sexism and sexual violence and harassment (SSVH) throughout our profession.
Gender equality across all professional posts, including technical positions, combating sexism and sexual violence and harassment which are commonplace in many areas of the audiovisual sector, and particularly in cinema.
The CNC (National Cinema Centre) has received the support of Collectif 50/50 who published a White Paper (in French) outlining legal tools and reiterating the fundamentals, procedures to be used, as well as implementing training sessions open to everyone of any gender.
This is only possible, however, if victims stand up and testify and inform Collectif 50/50 of any such actions or harassment. Collectif 50/50 introduces itself as:
"Collectif 50/50 currently brings together more than 1,500 professionals from the French creative, film and audiovisual industries. Structured as an action tank, 50/50 is firmly committed to reflect upon and fight for equality, parity and diversity in the film and audiovisual industry."
Producers will be bound by a triple obligation in order to have access to financial assistance:
- To follow training;
- To organise a training plan;
- To appoint a representative.
The CNC is firmly committed towards its zero tolerance strategy, with the firm hope that this bears fruit.

(2) On average in Europe, 1 person out of 2 is a woman in film schools, at the time of shooting the 1st short movie, it goes to one out of 3, at the time of the 1st and 2nd feature movie shooting, it goes to 1 out of 4 and from the 3rd feature movie and more, it goes to 1 out of 6.
