Sony MZ-R700 is the most famous Sony MiniDisc device. MiniDisc is such a dazzling success that it doesn't need any introduction: very large power autonomy, great simplicity of use, very sturdy and protective case, featherweight and extreme miniaturization, which can be inconvenient in use; in short, strong assets which make it the favourite of some sound mixers for backup copy. If you are not bothered with data compression (ATRAC) for on-set dialog or wild track recording and if you are provided with good mike preamps, Sony MZ-R700 offers unparalleled ease of use. It can be criticized only for the impossibility of adjusting volume when the pause button is released, which is not the case with some of its competitors (Sharp).
