35 mm Three Track Transfer + TC Track
35 mm Three Track Transfer + TC Track
In a nutshell

35 mm Three Track Transfer + TC Track process, required for classic table-film-editing done along with virtual-sound-editing (Pro Tools, Pyramix, etc), consists in transferring, while listening, original dailies sound (¼"analog audio tape, DAT or Hard Drive) on 35 mm tri-track perforated magnetic film (two tracks plus the sum of both), and in adding a new Timecode, continuous and increasing, laid down on a special track between perforations line and film edge. A two-track mirror DAT with the same Timecode is recorded in parallel; it will be required for conformation process once film editing is finished, using an editing decision list (EDL). Let's underline that, before any transfer, the technician sets up the optimal azimuth for playback head to match the azimuth on original tapes, and carries out level setting.
