The SONOSAX SX-BD1 mike preamp is a worthy successor of Kudelski SMR preamplifier from the mid 70's. The SMR was set on a short boompole and plugged directly into famous Nagra SN miniature recorder. 25 years later it has inspired Sonosax Company to create the SX-BD1 preamp.

The SX-BD1 is also to be set on a short boompole and allows, while booming, to see and adjust modulation level from the boom mic. With Phantom power, any type of 48V mic can be used.
The SX-BD1 is provided with high-pass filter (80 or 120 Hz), opto-electronic input limiter, reference tone generator, as well as headphone connector with 3-position monitoring level selector. It is 4 AAA batteries powered,

It is too bad the modulation wheel is not graduated, for greater accuracy in settings. Input and output connectors (Binder) are fairly fragile, especially on news or documentary shoot, with a cable connected to a DV camera.
