With Sound Devices SD 302, when two inputs are not enough but four are too many, Sound Devices offers the 302 mixer, ideal for documentary: one boom mike, two radio mikes. The SD 442 little sister also has many possibilities: two master outputs, two auxiliary outputs , two returns which can be used as additional line inputs (4 & 5), many options and parameters managed by internal microprocessor; only pan pots and low cut filters are different from SD 442. But like its little sister, SD MixPre, very small-sized knobs and switches make it less easy to operate than an usual-sized mixer.

Our recommendations:

SD 302 master outputs are electronic balanced. In case of unbalanced connection (semi-pro recorder, wireless transmitter, etc), do not join XLR poles 1 & 3; get out signal joining poles 2 & 1, leave pole 3 unused.
