Stereo digital recorder on Compact Flash card

In a few words

M-Audio Microtrack is a consumer ultra-compact stereo digital recording device designed for low-budgeted sound fans. It features two TSR 1/4" inputs, symetrical line or mike switchable level, a 1/8" mini-jack stereo electret mike input, a monitor output and a stereo two-RCA level line output. It makes it possible to record two tracks up to 96 Khz/24 Bits on extractible Compact Flash Card. It is the perfect companion for very small field mixers like the Sound Devices MixPre or 302. It can also be used as backup recorder on heavier recording setup...

The export of the files is possible wether using the Compact Flash Card or via its USB 2.0 connector. MicroTrack is then seen like an external harddrive (UMS) on the host-computer PC or Mac.

In addition to the internal battery powered version, DC Audiovisuel introduces also a customized version of the MicroTrack with a Hirose 4 points socket (traditional power supply) and an integrated DC converter which makes it possible to supply the recorder between 9 and 18 V. In counterpart, the Cinch SPDIF input was sacrified on benefit of the Hirose.

Our recommendations:

- The MicroTrack is a consumer recorder device and, for this reason, in spite of the established reputation of its manufacturer M-Audio, subsidiary of Digidesign, it will always be appropriate to carefully check the just recorded files.

- The Phantom power supply is not AES compliant and therefore unable to power a professional condenser mike, so this recorder should always be associated with a field mixer.
