In a nutshell

Beyer M 130, built on same technology than M 160, is a pressure gradient double-ribbon bidirectional microphone which offers a very hot and round sound for voices and some musical instruments. On the other hand, its very low output level makes its basic noise rather significant and thus requires very good preamps downstream, like Nagra 4.2 +6db dynamic preamps or M3Í PAD 30 preamp.

Our recommendations

It can be used for instance to record voices in noisy environment or two actors face to face. It is M 160 complement to make up an MS dynamic pair, but one must take care to compensate for the sensitivity differences which come from ribbon ageing.
