Digital stereo R-DAT "Walkman" recorder without TC

Sony TCD-D8, you dreamed it, Sony made it. Fifteen years after the invention of the cassette Walkman, the Japanese manufacturer designed a DAT recorder that's hardly larger ! Very popular for wild tracks and backup copies, on documentary and video shooting (when sound is recorded on camera), DAT puts sound mixer's and production's minds at ease since it uses no data compression: unlike MiniDisc (ATRAC), none of the finest signal detail is lost. It's sturdy and easy to use, though generally it needs to be used with a mixer because of its poor connectors and mike inputs. Besides, like MiniDisc, the small size of its buttons and controls can make it rather tricky to use; but, contrary to MiniDisc, power autonomy is much smaller because of tape transport.
