Sony TCD-D10 Pro 2 is the simplest and most reliable DAT recorder on the market. The Pro 2 is an improved model of the TCD-D10, but it has some distinctive features like backlit LCD level and function display, balanced inputs with XLR connector, improved converters and "absolute time" display. Its cons are the lack of confidence monitoring, digital inputs format SPDIF or AES/EBU depending of cable, lack of TC management, lack of monitor switch, poor mike preamps and concentric level knobs which means that it must be used with a mixer. Its pros consist of a remarkable sturdiness, small size and low dust and weather sensitivity. These pros are such that a lot of films, and not the least ones, have been recorded on this machine, with very few errors and breakdowns. If Sony has decided to give up manufacturing TCDD10 PRO2, after 15 years' loyal service, it is only because they have decided to give up DAT altogether.
