This MS pair Sennheiser MKH 50 or MKH 40 - MKH 30 has all MKH series advantages: great sturdiness, very high output level, very low distortion and excellent background noise reduction. It is especially appropriate for extreme climatic condition shooting: it is temperature, damp and condensation insensitive. Each mike has a low-cut filter and a -10 dB attenuator. Some sound mixers prefer mounting an hypercardioid mike (MKH 50) rather than cardioid (MKH 40); this mounting offers a better left-right separation but sometimes creates a "hole" in the middle. MKH pair main drawback is its size: unlike its competitors, it is not possible to detach capsule away from preamp, so windscreen is quite large (coincident capsules). MKH pair is supplied with a matrix, connected to headphone output and 6LR61 battery (9V) powered.
