In a few words

Neumann KM 84 i is a key microphone for classical music recording, but it's not advisable to use it on a boom because of its sensitivity to low-frequency mechanical vibrations: a light puff of air is enough "to stick" the diaphragm and provoke/could lead to brutal overload. On the other hand, it is highly recommended for piano recording

Tips & Hints

- The needle ensuring the electronic connection between the capsule and the preamp tends, as time goes on, to unscrew by itself. It also tends to superficially oxidize, and requires from time to time a cleaning with an alcohol solution.
