In a nutshell

Sound Devices 970 is a 64-track Dante and MADI-equipped multitrack audio recorder, in an ultra compact half-rack 2U chassis.

It can record up to 64 tracks with monophonic or polyphonic files, 24-bit WAV, on up to four SSD drives, two on removable Caddies inserted behind the control panel, and the two others connecting to the eSATA ports on the back of the unit. For the 96 kHz fans, Sound Devices 970 also runs it, but only on 32 tracks.

Inputs include:
- 64 channels on Dante.
- 64 MADI channels, coaxial or optical.
- 8 analog line level inputs.
- 8 AES digital channels.
As on 788, any input can be assigned to any track.

It is equipped with an Ambient Timecode generator and runs in Master Clock mode.

If its external 12-27 V DC dual-power should collapse, Sound Devices 970 features an in-house "Power Safe" technology, which allows 10 second autonomy in order to properly close the currently recording files.

Sound Devices 970 is a high quality and high reliability recorder, as well as being endowed with a very intuitive use, with clear and simple menus as the manufacturer has accustomed us.

Our recommendations

If a film producer who does not own a Porsche Panamera Turbo S (Type 970) has missed his life, a sound mixer who doesn't have a Sound Devices 970 has not necessarily missed his: he can have it rented by production!
