In a nutshell

Neumann KM 100 (combined here with cardioid AK 40 capsule to get a Neumann KM 140) is the most compact of all condenser microphones with interchangeable head capsule; it is shielded so it's immune against electromagnetic interferences (EMI) (which is not the case with KM 180 series). The FET transistor is fully integrated in the capsule, so that one can be easily, quickly and safely detached away from the output stage by using a simple flexible "passive" cable (LC 3 KA). Its small size and low weight make it perfect on boom, provided that the capsule is protected by a windscreen, foam or polyester basket-type (B 20/W 20).

Our recommendations

AK 40 cardioid capsule is proximity effect sensitive and provides a sound rich in bass. The lack of low-cut filter can be compensated by the use of a rigid polyester basket-type windscreen B 20/W 20 which acoustically filters low frequencies. Windscreen is fitted to microphone body by our technicians.
