In a few words

Sennheiser MKH 8020 is part of the MKH 8000 series available in three sets:

- MKH 8020 omnidirectional
- MKH 8040 cardioid
- MKH 8050 supercardioid

Like all MKH series mikes, these three mikes are based on HF polarization theory, delivering a very low background-noise audio signal, with very low output impedance, while eliminating the use of field-effect transistors (FET), which often tend to generate random noises. Thus, thanks to this HF polarization technique, these mikes can be equipped with small capsules, which offer excellent response in low frequencies, and of course significant improvement in high frequencies. Transducer symmetrical design provides unchanged acoustic impedance and very low distortion; it has high output level, with less background noise, and thus a clearer signal..

Sennheiser has finally decided, after Neumann and Schoeps, to separate capsule MKHC 8020 and preamplifier module MZX 8000, whose dimensions are now 75 mm long (instead of 41 mm), with a diameter of 19 mm. Thanks to its offset cable MZL 8003 or its swivel joint MZG 8000 and its charcoal grey colour (darker than the famous Schoeps grey), it will be much easier to hide this mike for cinema and TV use.

Sennheiser MKH 8020, notably sensitive in low frequencies, is provided with an OSIX shock mount.

Our recommendations:

Sennheiser MKH 8020 frequency response being under 5 Hz at -6 dB, special OSIX shock mount for MKH 8000 Series is mandatory.
