Let alone the matter of his own wig, which sound mixer was not faced with the problem of sticking a lavalier mic to the skin of an actor! Each one has his own solution, mostly using medical tape, more or less allergenic; sometimes you have to dare to use butyl, or plainly gaffer-tape or electrical tape!

DC Audiovisuel provides, for this purpose, the Vapon Topstick tapes, coming from the United States. They are double-sided self adhesive strips, especially renowned in the world of hairpiece, ensuring strong adhesion for long hours of filming under the spotlights.

The small case, the size of a poker playing card case, contains fifty double-sided adhesive 1" x 3" (2.5 cm x 7.7 cm) tapes, sufficient to stick between one hundred and one hundred and fifty lavs on the skin, depending on the accessory used.

Beware, what is necessary for the toupee is also necessary for the mic: adherence is guaranteed when the hairpiece (here the mic or its clip) and the skin are thoroughly clean, dry and free of oil.

In addition to this very effective tape, DC Audiovisuel provides MC1 and MC2 attachment fittings from Tram (Theodore A. Rapp Associates), modified to be able to insert a Sanken COS-11 besides a Tram TR-50.

The accessory is a small disk of transparent plastic, 1.2" (3 cm) diameter, in which the mic is set, like in the "Vampire Clips", in a small rubber tube, which ensures a strong hold. The capsule is protected from friction by two metal hoops. MC2 version has, on its backside, little claws for fixation on clothes; the backside of the MC1 version is flat, allowing the use of double-sided tape, such as Topstick, to stick directly to the skin.

Like for the Vampire Clip, do not pull the mic with the wire, but push the head down with a fingernail, to remove it from the rubber tube.

Topstick, for you men!

These accessories are on sale at DC Audiovisuel.
