Pro-Sound Vampire Clip is a small hook with double pin for the Sanken COS-11 Lavalier microphone.
The Vampire Clip made by Pro-Sound is a real improvement of the VClip. This type of double needle hook is unquestionably inspired by the excellent Tram mike accessory, extremely practical to clip a Lavalier microphone in a flash on a jacket, a shirt, a tie, the brim of a T-shirt or a bra.
The principle is simple: a tube, with an internal diameter equivalent to COS-11 capsule diameter, is fixed to a narrow deck in which are fixed two very fine pins which come to stick in the fabric. The original VClip offers two deck widths, narrow and wide. The deck width of the Pro-Sound Vampire Clip is hardly larger than the diameter of the microphone. It makes it an extremely discreet and effective accessory.
With the original VClip, the plastic tube, into which the COS-11 capsule fits, is as long as the capsule, so that taking out the microphone is often difficult, and can lead to the destruction of the accessory. Furthermore the VClip becomes unusable when the wire has been repaired on the lower base of the capsule, which happens often with rented products.
On the contrary, with the Pro-Sound Vampire Clip, the tube is half that long, rubber made, with an internal diameter almost equal to microphone diameter. This one is nevertheless snugly fitted, and removing the capsule is easier, except for brand new microphones, when surface treatment adheres strongly sticks to Vampire Clip rubber.
To safely take the capsule out of the Vampire Clip, and avoid breaking any of the two, you must hold the microphone base between thumb and index, and, with the other hand, push the microphone downward with index nail on the capsule and thumb nail at bottom of the tube. Never try to pull it out with the wire!
Both costumers and actresses appreciate this new mounting of the COS-11: no more gaffer tape with destructive glue on delicate clothing materials, easy mounting without visible fabrics deformation! On women, the ideal place often turns out to be right between the cups of the bra. There, the microphone is protected from rubbing against clothes and skin.
If the sharpness of the pins allows it to be mounted very discreetly on finest fabrics, one may regret that they are a bit too long, slightly longer than the lower edge of the deck. Pricking oneself often happens if one is not careful, particularly removing the microphone! In case of mounting the Vampire Clip towards the skin, it will thus be advisable to protect pin points with a tiny piece of fine adhesive.
At worst this accessory will leave marks on the skin that could fool the best of CSI.
