Nagra is not dead, still up! Thursday 27 January, 2005
The sound mixer of the film "La marche de l'empereur" (shot in Adélie Coast, in Antarctica) has used a Nagra IV-S/Timecode tape recorder during more than 9 months without any particular problems.
This Nagra IV-S had been especially prepared by DC Audiovisuel technical department to resist extreme cold (-60°): more flexible adjustment of the clutches, capstan tension decreased by 20%, replacement of ball bearings by specific models, use of special low-temperature grease.
Few problems were encountered during shooting: time code setting was sometimes capricious; a set of headphones breathed its last and an ATN was rather unmanageable. But thanks to new technology, through Internet, we could dialog with the sound mixer and give him some advice.
The result is a splendid film, worth seeing and listening to.
